St Mary’s Hospice has received over £66,000 from Furness Building Society and its members.
The annual donation is based on the collective savings held by Community Affinity Account holders who opt to link their accounts to St Mary’s Hospice.
The £66,266 contribution will make it possible for the South Lakes and Furness-based hospice to continue its vital work providing specialist care to patients with life-limiting illness and their families across the Furness and South Lakes area.
St Mary’s Hospice offers palliative care, emotional and compassionate support, as well as practical guidance. The services are available to patients and their families in the hospice, at their community hub in Barrow and in the community.
Furness Building Society’s Community Affinity Accounts, allows members can support local charities close to their hearts across the North West.
Every year, Furness makes a donation to each charity from its own profits, based on the total amount saved in all accounts throughout the year.
Helen Mason, branch manager at Furness Building Society, said: “We take great pleasure in supporting our local hospice and its work providing compassionate palliative care across Furness and the South Lakes, enabling people to live in comfort and dignity.
“Thanks to our members’ unwavering generosity, we’re able to provide valuable contributions year on year to enable St Mary’s to continue this vitally important work in our community.”
Annabelle Holloway, corporate partnerships manager at St Mary’s Hospice, added: “St Mary’s Hospice is extremely fortunate to have the continued support of Furness Building Society through this fantastic initiative.
“This is an excellent initiative and it is a great way for members to support St Mary’s, without costing them a penny.
“It costs over £6 million a year to run all of our services and we only receive one fifth of this from the Government, via the NHS.
“This means that eight out of 10 of our patients have their care funded by donations from businesses, such as Furness Building Society.
“We are extremely grateful to Furness Building Society and their members for raising such an incredible amount, year after year. This donation will make a long and lasting difference to the hospice and its future.”
