Sharif Deans, a pre-season recruit for Workington Reds, has left the club and is believed to have signed for Prescot Cables.
Deans, who had been with Widnes last season, was signed by former manager Darren Edmondson after figuring in pre-season friendlies.
During that time he scored two spectacular goals but most of his appearances have come from the subs bench.
At the time of his signing it was said that he was moving to Carlisle to be nearer his girlfriend’s work.
Deans would almost certainly have started tonight’s Fred Conway County Cup-tie at Borough Park against Whitehaven.
In a post on their Facebook page Reds said: “We would like to announce that Sharif Deans has left the club to pursue opportunities elsewhere and we would like to thank Sharif for his contribution in a red shirt and wish him well for the future.”
In the meantime the Reds directors are continuing their pursuit of a new manager.
It’s just over a fortnight since they advertised the position following the departure of Edmondson.
They have started discussions with interested parties and will be speaking to some of them for a second time this week.
Chairman Phil Norman said they want to name the new manager as soon as possible but it is unlikely to happen before Saturday’s key away game at Stocksbridge Park Steels.
