Power boaters from across the country are preparing to compete on Coniston as part of the annual records week after being delayed by strong winds and rain.
Torrential rain meant jetties were underwater and launch areas inaccessible for competitors and officials.
Coniston’s water levels remain high but Glynn Cunliffe, press officer for Coniston Power Boat Record Week told Cumbria Crack this morning that conditions this morning were otherwise ideal.
“It’s been a frustrating week with the conditions but we’ve set the course and have competitors eager to take part so all being well we’ll be able to run the event from this morning,” Glyn said.

“Our right to run the event which is agreed by byelaw expires at 2pm on Friday but we’re aiming to get as many away as we can.”

Only one competitor has had to leave the meet and it’s hoped records will still be broken despite the curtailed schedule.
Meanwhile, the final seasonal sailing on Coniston of the National Trust’s steam yacht Gondola had to be cancelled because of high water levels.
