Lake District road to close for emergency repairs

A section of a Lake District road will close next week for emergency repairs.

Part of the A593, near Ellers Brow, Skelwith Bridge, will close for the repair of a damaged culvert.

The culvert was damaged during the recent heavy rain. The repairs require the road to be closed.

An emergency closure will come into effect at 9am on Monday, November 10.

Work is expected to be completed by 4pm on Wednesday November 12 and the road will reopen.

A signed diversion route is in place via the A593, A5084, A5092, A590 and A592.

A spokesman for Westmorland and Furness Council said: “We recognise the inconvenience this unforeseen road closure will cause.

“The recent heavy rain has caused an issue at this location and we have moved quickly to sort it out.

“Unfortunately, it is necessary to close the road and we appreciate the patience and understanding of the local community, businesses and road users while we make these repairs.”
