Two Cumbrian heroes have been celebrated by new awards.
Churchill Living’s Local Heroes Awards recognise the efforts of over-60s making a difference to their communities.
Terry Peate, 70, of Cockermouth, has been crowned Cumbria’s Local Hero.
Terry is the driving force behind Linking Lives, a local project that connects lonely or isolated residents with Link Friends who spend time with them each week.
With over 75 volunteers now involved, Terry works tirelessly to ensure the programme runs smoothly, raising funds through regular tool sales, providing practical help to neighbours, building wildlife boxes and supporting community projects such as Silver Meadows.
He is also heavily involved in his local church, helping maintain the community hall for its regular users.
Terry said: “I’m very honoured and humbled to receive this award. The £1,000 donation from the Churchill Foundation will make a big difference to Linking Lives, especially as we are looking to expand our services into new locations to help even more people.
“I’d like to say a big thank you to Churchill and also to my colleagues at Linking Lives for all their support.”
Peter Forrest, 67, of Barrow, was highly commended in the awards.
Peter dedicates his time to keeping the town clean, litter-picking daily in all weather and ensuring collected waste is properly sorted and recycled.
His efforts have made a difference, helping maintain Barrow as a cleaner, more welcoming place for residents and visitors alike.
