A new left-wing challenger party has arrived on the Cumbrian political scene.
A branch of Your Party has been established in the Westmorland and Lonsdale Parliamentary constituency.
On November 5, the party said it had held its third meeting at Abbot Hall Social Centre in Kendal.
Your Party was founded by Jeremy Corbyn, former leader of the Labour Party, and Zarah Sultana, MP for Coventry South, over their dissatisfaction with the direction of the Labour Party under Sir Keir Starmer.
The party is supported by the Independent Alliance, a group of six independent MPs in the House of Commons.
Paul Casson, of Your Party South Lakes, said: “We are building a party that will challenge for real change – for an end to cuts and privatisation and for a mass programme of council housing.”
Martin Powell-Davies, of Your Party South Lakes, said: “We’re building a new party made up of young and working people who have had enough of the rising cost of living, the lack of affordable housing and crumbling public services.”
Your Party is currently a placeholder for the party’s official name, which will be voted on by members at the inaugural conference.
