A new pigeon racing club in West Cumbria has handed over £100 to a local school.
Moor Row School was presented with the cheque from Egremont Midweek Club which was only formed earlier this year.
The school won the prize as a result of an idea by Peter Bewsher, the club’s chairman.
He was sending 23 birds to the final young bird race from Stratford upon Avon and decided to utilise the opportunity to raise funds for the club who support young people’s sport locally, whilst promoting the sport of pigeon racing.
Peter sold tickets for each bird competing in the race with half of the money raised given out as prizes and the other half to the club funds.
Members and family bought tickets and with two tickets still available it was decided to give them away to two local schools, Bookwell in Egremont and Moor Row School.

There was a fantastic atmosphere on the day of the race when members met at Peter’s loft, with the family providing bacon sandwiches and drinks whilst waiting for the birds to return.
Everyone was absolutely delighted when the bird allocated to Moor Row came in third position, scooping the £100 prize.
Andrew Kenmare, who visits the school regularly promoting pigeon racing, was representing the Midweek Club when he presented the winning cheque.
The whole event raised just over £1,000 and the Midweek Club would like to give a big shout out to the young lads who held weekly pool competitions at Peter’s garden room, The Garrison, and raised £400 for the cause.
