Penrith’s Winter Droving will return in 2025 – as part of the town’s Christmas lights switch-on event later this month.
The annual droving was cancelled at the 11th hour last month due to safety concerns, but its popular procession will be part of Penrith Sparkle on November 22.
Since its cancellation, the two event teams have worked together to try and bring some Droving magic to the Christmas event.
They said: “It’s a wonderful collaboration for the town and its community.”
Dan Harding, of Penrith BID, said he was keen to see the lanterns roaming the streets of the town again.
He added: “The opportunity was taken to ensure the locals got to be involved and relish the combination of both events that bring so much to the town.
“Christmas family fun with Droving enchantment, it should be a spectacle and something for every generation to enjoy!”
Adrian Lochhead, director of Eden Arts, which organises the Winter Drovong, added: “We are really delighted to be able to join with Sparkle and bring the droving procession to Penrith.
“We have faced all sorts of difficulties over the years, COVID was especially hard, but we always got the droving through.
“So after the disappointment of a few weeks ago this feels so good to be getting the parade on once again! We have a strong relationship with the BID team, and that is what has led to us being able to work together to do the best that we can for Penrith.
“Get your masks on, sign up for the torches, join in!”
Penrith Sparkle will be held from 2pm on Saturday November 22. The parade will start at 5pm from Ullswater Community College and will lap the town before the lights are turned on at 6pm.
This year the local superstars pressing the plunger are Santa, Mayor Val Bowen and local legend Roland Bateman.
