Workington RNLI’s crew launched its inshore lifeboat after spotting vessels in trouble.
The organisation’s senior technician saw a person in the water opposite the lifeboat station yesterday, Monday November 24, at around 1.45pm.
The person was trying to refloat a small fishing boat that had run aground.
A second vessel attempted to recover the vessel but had caught a rope round the propeller, rendering the vessel inactive.
The Port of Workington pilot boat was in the vicinity of the incident and took the second casualty vessel, in tow, the short distance into the port.
Workington RNLI’s senior technician spoke to lifeboat operations manager John Thompson and they agreed to launch the inshore lifeboat, the James R Allan.
The volunteer crew assisted two people who were trying to refloat the vessel. After it was refloated, for safety, it was towed to its nearby mooring in Workington Harbour.
The lifeboat returned to the station at 3pm.
