Workington Town scooped a unique double in an end-of-season poll for the sport’s trade paper.
Rugby League Express ran a readers’ vote on a variety of sections across the three tiers of the game.
Results published today showed that Town won the Coach of the Year in Jonty Gorley and the Player of the Year in Zarrin Galea.
Town had finished runners-up to North Wales Crusaders in the League One table for 2025 but Gorley and Galea triumphed in the readers’ poll.
Gorley picked up more than half the total votes (53.5%) to win the award comfortably ahead of Carl Forster (23.5), Scott Taylor (10.6), Paul Wood (6.4) and Mark Dunning (6.9).
It was almost a photo finish in the poll for Player of the Year but Galea (33.1) just held off Workington team-mate Jake Carter (32.3) and they were followed by Sam Wilde (13.6), Lewis Else (10.7) and Jordie Gibson (10.4).
