Whitehaven have signed a highly-promising Lowca outside back Xenden Callander after a successful pre-season trial period.
The 18-year-old, who is equally comfortable in the centre or wing, steps up after being with the squad during the entire pre-season campaign ahead of the 2026 Championship season.
Callander had a breakthrough 2025 campaign in the community game, representing England Community Lions Under-18s as they picked up the Four Nations crown.
He also scored a try for the Community Invitational XIII that represented the best of the local amateur scene in Stevie Scholey’s Testimonial last month, picking up man of the match for his side as well.
Whitehaven head coach Anthony Murray said: “He’s got a real good work ethic and attitude and has loved the training where he has been an absolute beast,
“How he has put himself across in training was enough for me to sign him as he is the type of a player that we want – young, hungry and want to play for Whitehaven.
“It’s really good to see that young players want to come here because they know they’re going to get an opportunity and going to be in a good environment.
“I’m really excited to see what he is going to bring to the team.”
