Workington Reds officials have been angered and bemused after seeing video footage of two key incidents from the New Year’s Day game with Lancaster City.
They show two tackles which brought distinctly different colours of card from referee Nat Cox.
Lancaster’s Christian Sloan received only yellow for a bad tackle on Workington’s Luke Ellis, while later in the game Reds’ Brad Carroll was sent off for a tackle which the referee must have thought was worse.
However Reds manager Billy Barr and his directors have claimed Mr Cox got it wrong in both instances – decisions which could have affected the result.
In a controversial end to the game the Reds bench was told there was going to be three minutes added, when in fact it was shown to be six – and Lancaster scored their equaliser deep into the seventh minute.
Then after the game goalkeeper coach Billy Redden were also shown a red card, presumably for something said to the referee.
Captain Steve Rigg played against advice against Lancaster, leading from the front as usual, and is waiting for a date to have surgery on his problem knee.
Dav Symington is also waiting for a knee operation but has been told that if all goes well he could be playing again in two months.
Reds now have a break until next Saturday when they travel to Whitby Town as they start 2026 nine points adrift at the foot of the NPL Premier Division.
