Throstle A

Throstle A continue to keep the pressure on for the top position in the Aspatria Pool League after they travelled to play Letters B.

The Wigton side stormed into a 5-1 lead after the singles, with only Rob Sewall winning for the Letters. Throstle then won all three doubles to complete a comprehensive 8-1 win.

But Sun Inn A remain on top of the table as they matched Throstle’s result with a similar victory over Sun Inn FC in the derby match.

Like the Throstle, Sun Inn A led 5-1 after the singles, including a nice eight ball clearance from Paul Mostyn.

Sun Inn A then won all three doubles to finish 8-1 ahead with David Wilson the only winner for Sun Inn FC.

Miners B visited Wigton Park BC and found themselves 4-0 behind. However wins from Mark Pearson and Peter Mortimer brought the match back to 4-2.

Wigton Park BC hit back strongly and sealed the win when Gareth Davenport and Ryan Asbridge won the first doubles game.

Miners B did finish on a high by taking the last two doubles but Wigton Park took the points at 5-4.

Cumberland B entertained Wigton Rugby Club and the visitors got off to a good start with Luke Marshall-Dowell winning the opening frame.

That’s where it swung Cumberland’s way as they won the next five frames to clinch the match.

There was some consolation for the rugby club when they won the first two doubles, but Cumberland B won the last double to clinch the match 6-3.

Joe Thompson won both his singles and doubles for Cumberland B.

Second place Sun Inn B took on fourth place Miners A, in a match that swung both ways.

Miners took a 2-0 lead with wins from Ryan Irving and Stu Irwin, but Sun Inn B fought back winning the next four singles to go into the doubles with a 4-2 advantage.

It was set up for a last frame decider when Miners took control winning the first two doubles to level the match at 4-4, but Sun Inn clinched the match 5-4, winning the last double thanks to Gary Miller and Ian Frizzle.
