A sea of sunflowers will return this year to support Hospice at Home West Cumbria.
The display will see the grounds of Cockermouth Castle filled with 500 handcrafted ironwork sunflowers from Friday April 10 to Monday April 13.
The charity is inviting supporters old and new to visit the display, which is open to all with free entry, whether visiting in memory of a loved one or simply to take in the beauty of the sunflowers and the historic castle walls.
Hospice at Home West Cumbria’s first sea of sunflowers took place last year in the grounds of St Bees Priory.
Holly Harkness, community fundraising co-ordinator for Hospice at Home West Cumbria, said: “We are delighted to be holding our second sunflower display this April, creating a space for our supporters to reflect and remember loved ones we have lost, and the patients in our care.
“Cockermouth Castle is such a beautiful setting, and we’d like to thank our longstanding supporters, Lord and Lady Egremont, for hosting our display.
“The sunflower itself is the universal symbol of hospice care, representing light, loyalty and love, so we welcome you to come along and enjoy the bright display, which we hope will allow people to find out more about what we do, and provide a special opportunity to support our cause and help us continue to make a difference.”
The sunflowers are available to buy and dedicate in memory of a loved one, and the dedication will be on display throughout the event.
Visit https://hospiceathomewestcumbria.org.uk/, by visiting a retail shop in Workington and Cockermouth, its therapy and information centre in Workington, where you can collect a dedication card.
Once the display has come to an end, supporters will be able to keep their sunflower to remember their loved one and this special event.
Hospice at Home West Cumbria provides high quality and end of life care to people living in West Cumbria, and all money raised from this event will go towards the care and support given to patients and their families going through the most difficult of times in our local community.
