Both Cumbria County Cup semi-finals arranged for this weekend have been put back because clubs are playing catch-up.
They are two intriguing ties but the spate of bad weather caused league postponements which are being played tomorrow, Saturday January 23.
Kendal and Penrith should have met in their semi-final at Mint Bridge but instead have Regional 1 North East fixtures to fulfil.
Both have tough tests with Penrith travelling to League leaders Heath who have won all 14 fixtures so far, while Kendal host current second-in-the-table Alnwick.
The other County semi-final will see Keswick entertain Upper Eden in a battle of two Regional 2 North clubs.
But that will also have to be rescheduled as Keswick are travelling to Morpeth for a rearranged league game.
Aspatria are also in action, travelling to Consett and will be invigorated by a fine win over West Hartlepool last week when the first 20 minutes saw some of the best rugby the team has produced in a while.
It leaves Counties 1 Cumbria to provide a full programme of games and after last week’s fixtures Carlisle are back on top, with the main threat now coming from Kirkby Lonsdale.
Previous leaders Hawcoat Park were beaten 26-17 at home by Kirkby Lonsdale last week while Carlisle’s 63-8 win at Creighton took them top by a point.
Carlisle will expect to follow up with a home win tomorrow when they entertain Ambleside, beaten 43-0 at home last week by Egremont. Ciaran Trainor has the fixture.
Kirkby Lonsdale also have Lakes opposition when they host Windermere (referee Dan Shovelton) while Hawcoat Park have a derby tie at Millom to try and get back to winning ways (Martin Maughan has the whistle).
The other games are: Cockermouth v St. Benedict’s (Jonny Watson); Egremont v Workington (Archie Harding); Keswick 2nds v Creighton (Stephen Elliott); Penrith 2nds v Whitehaven (Alistair Jones).
Referee’s appointments came a little later than normal due to a Carlisle Colts game on Saturday and Furness Colts game on Sunday both being cancelled with the out of county opposition short of players.
It was the same with Upper Eden’s scheduled home game with Hartlepool Rovers as the visitors also cried off.
A late addition of an RFU Under-18s ladies game at Penrith on Sunday meant several changes to referees, and showed the flexibility of members of the Cumbria Society.
