Ex-Barrow boss Pete Wild sacked by Fleetwood Town

Former Barrow manager Pete Wild has been sacked by Fleetwood Town after Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Colchester United.

A club statement said: “We can confirm Pete Wild has left the club with immediate effect.

“Following six defeats in the last seven games the club felt now is the right time to make a change to the first team management.

“Assistant head coach Adam Temple will also depart and everyone at the club would like to place on record their thanks to Pete and Adam for their hard work and professionalism during their time at the club.

“The club will issue a further update on the first team staff in due course.”

Fleetwood are currently 15th in League Two on 34 points, 14 clear of the relegation zone and ten in front of his old club Barrow.

Fleetwood have not won a game in 2026 and their last victory was on December 20 when they beat Gillingham 2-1.

Speaking after the Colchester defeat Wild highlighted his side’s long injury list and felt his players had ‘come off the gas’ slightly. Ten players are currently sidelined with injury, five of them out for the rest of the season.

The 41-year-old was appointed Barrow manager in May 2022 and in his first season led the Bluebirds to a 9th place finish, when they were 22nd the previous season.

An impressive run of form across the early months of the 2023-24 season saw Barrow equal a club record EFL winning run of four matches, climbing into the automatic promotion places.

His efforts in his team’s achievement saw him awarded the EFL League Two Manager of the Month award for November 2023. He won the award for the second time for March 2024 with fourteen points from six matches as Barrow remained firmly in the play-off places.

But a poor run of form in the final weeks saw them slip out of the play-offs by a point and he left the club in the May after two years in charge. Seven months later he landed the Fleetwood job.
