
The John Peel Darts League started in 1959 and current leaders Aspatria Bowling Club have just suffered their first defeat of the season.
They travelled to the Grey Goat and went down 8-6, after the sides had shared the singles 3-3.
Steven Ostle, Dan Stobart and Jonny Bowe won for the Goat, while David Graham, Ali Edgar and Stew Reynolds responded for the league leaders.
The first two doubles (2points) went to the Goat to put them in pole position before Jonny Bowe, Daz Bowe and Mark Pearson secured victory in the final treble.
Stobart twice got off with 120 while for the Bowling Club Edgar got off with 114 and Ged Stockdale popped in a 100 to start.
Elsewhere Sun Inn A hosted The Jovial Sailor and seemed in for a tough night when Sailor raced into a 2-0 lead through Weir and Winthrop. Weir took out a 16 dart leg including a 180.
Sun Inn’s 15-year-old Jayden Faulder led the comeback charge before Ken McCartney, Jonny Taylor and stand in Janine Scott made it 4-2 to the Aspatria side going into the doubles.
Weir and Winthrop again proved too good and tied the game 4-4 but Sun Inn A won the last two doubles and both trebles to secure an impressive 10-4 victory.
Current League Champions Tam O’Shanter had an impressive 12-2 victory at home to Wigton Park Bowling Club.
Robson (116 Off) and Ramshaw (108 Off) were the stand-outs for Tama while Blacklock, with a 108 Off was the sole singles winners for Wigton Park. Duncan, Tolson and Williams were the other singles winners for Tama.
Bridge End A dropped only one point when they won 13-1 at home to The Letters Inn B with Owen Pattinson scoring the sole point for the visitors. Musgrave, Vallance, Tiffen, Lawson and Musgrave won singles for Bridge A.
Second in the table Silloth Bowling Club ran into an in-form Wigton Bowling Club and were humbled 11-3 despite taking a 3-1 lead through Pape, Robinson and Redman.
Wigton BC levelled the game with singles wins for Stirzaker, Janice Wilson and Metcalf before winning all the doubles and trebles.
The Red Dial Arrows hosted Blackamoor and came out on top with father and son Matt and Jamie Glencross both winning their singles and Adam Gill taking the other to make it 3-3 with Greg Bullock 100 Off, Percy senior and Az Robson won for the visitors.
Jamie and Kieron Little won the first double before Mac Charters and Gill made it 7-3. Dave Carr and Robson brought it back to 7-5 before Alan Carr, Greg Percy and Percy senior set up a tense last treble but Glencross, Gill and Rob Hunter got the job done for an 8-6.
In Division Two, where five points separate the top five leading teams Crown Inn, Broadfield continued the charge for the title with a 12-2 win against Grey Goat B.
Jack Hellon and Will Jackson scored the points for the Goat while Jake Armstrong, Fleming, Mitchinson and Davidson won their singles while the Crown then took the rest of the points. Armstrong scored an impressive 140 Off.
Second placed Sun Inn B took on the Red Dial Sparrows and Robinson got Off with 140 and to take the first game for the Sparrows.
Then Tony Quinn, Adam Palmer and David Shield gave Sun B a 3-1 lead, before Bell pulled it back to 3-2. Kenneth Bowes then made it 4-2 to the Aspatria side at the end of the singles.
Sparrows took the first double through Robinson and Xenon Charters before Sun Inn B clipped the Sparrow’s wings by taking the last two doubles and securing the victory through Palmer, Shield, Mark Harris and Bowes. Sparrows took both trebles for a final score of 8-6.
Joint second placed Bridge End B travelled to the Joiners Arms, Newton Arlosh and after the singles it was 3-3. For Joiners Linden Wilson, Joe Graham and Flynn Charters earned the wins and for Bridge End B Lawrence Armstrong, Dyer and Foster levelled things up.
Wilson and Cam Jackson took the first double but Bridge End took the next two through Armstrong and Dyer and Liz Humphries and Foster.
The Joiners took the first treble to make the score 6-7 but the travelling Bridge End B secured the win to snatch it 8-6 through Paton, Humphries and Foster.
Carlisle’s Southend Club beat promotion hopefuls Rosley 8-6 with victories for Darwood, McGarvie and Halliman in singles with Cross, Little and Dalton (180) firing back for Rosley.
Wharton and Cross put Rosley 5-3 up but Pattinson and Halliman levelled the game 5-5 before Emma and Julie McGarvie made it 7-5. Southend took the first treble to secure the victory.
Letters Inn A beat Bolton Lions 8-6 as Park and Falcon won their singles for the Letters while Bolton went 4-2 up via Smallwood, Day, Cockburn and Dobson.
Park and Broome levelled it 4-4; Day and Cockburn made it 4-6 before Hamilton and Falvon squared it again at 6-6. Letters took both trebles to secure the win for the home side.
Two new sides to the league, Wellington of Great Orton and Wheatsheaf, Abbeytown faced each other and it ended in a 10-4 win for the Welly taking all six singles through Gibson, Knox, Scragg, Jackson, Musgrave and Knox.
Wheatsheaf re[plied by winning the first double via Harrison and Scott and both trebles.
At the bottom of the table Hare and Hounds leapfrogged Wheatsheaf with an impressive 9-5 victory away to Oddfellows, Caldbeck.
The Oddfellows had taken a 2-1 lead through Potts and Bell but trailed 6-2 after the first double with Studholme, Howe, Elaine Studholme and Carr winning their singles.
Studholme and McCracken took the first double and after Oddfellows pulled one back, Elaine Studholme and Gaz Carr took the third double to win the game.
