Delays continue to hit the creation of a new permanent Co-op supermarket in Aspatria.
The firm had initially hoped that the redeveloped King Street store would be open for business in May, but this week said it could not confirm a launch date.
The store closed on June 28 last year and the company was given permission to open a temporary store, stocking the basics, on a section of the town’s Queen Street car park.
The Co-op said: “As can often be the case with older buildings and complex construction programmes, requirements for additional works relating to structure and services to the property have been uncovered when work commenced.
“We are very sorry for the delay, and we’re currently working through these additional work with our contractors.”
Last month, the supermarket was given further permission to build a larger temporary store on the Queen Street car park.
A Co-op spokesman added: “Co-op is focused on backing British high streets, and we’re working to create a store which will be a hub locally. We are proud to be part of local community life.
“While there isn’t anything further we can confirm at this stage, we will provide a further update as soon as we can.”
