Wrynose Pass is closed due to icy conditions.
The pass, which connects Little Langdale to the Duddon Valley, has been closed by Westmorland & Furness Council at the request of Cumbria police.
The authority described the conditions as treacherous.
It added: “A number of vehicles became stranded during the day yesterday requiring the assistance of police and mountain rescue teams.”
Temperatures have dropped overnight so the road has been closed to avoid further risk and pressure on emergency services, it added.
