Workington Town fans might see a stronger St Helens side for the Challenge Cup game at the Fibrus Community Stadium than might have been expected.
It’s the only game Saints have before the opening game of the Super League season at Warrington Wolves on Friday, February 13.
Their visit to West Cumbria on February 6 is likely to mean coach Paul Rowley giving outings to players who might have been short on game time.
Getting more minutes into players who did not feature in the Matty Lees Testimonial game against Castleford Tigers at the weekend might be a priority.
Saints won that game 40-10 and three of the forwards who missed that game – new signing Jacob Host, along with Alex Walmsley and Curtis Sironen are expected to be fit and available for the trip to Workington.
Half-back Jonny Lomax has been struggling with a rib injury bit he should also be in the squad of players Rowley will bring with him.
Centre Mark Percival is not certain to be involved while prop Noah Stephens is almost certain to be given a bit longer to recover from a foot injury.
Coach Paul Rowley is the son of Allan, who spent time as a Workington Town player in the early 1980s.
