Barrow Raiders continued their 100 per cent start to the season with a third successive win – their second in the Championship.
A 38-4 victory over the reborn Salford side was a comfortable exercise for Paul Crarey’s side, who virtually had the points sewn up by half time when they led 28-0.
It had taken only five minutes for them to go ahead when Curtis Teare engineered an opening for Luke Cresswell with some clever play down the right. Brad Walker converted.
Four minutes later they were in again after a scintillating run from speedster Tee Ritson put him over in the corner, but the conversion drifted wide.
The lead was stretched to 16-0 in the 13th minute when a clever kick through deceived the Salford defence and debutant Dan Knott got there first to touch down. Walker converted.
Salford tightened-up after those early set-backs but Barrow made it 22-0 on 32 minutes when Aidan Doolan forced his way through to score another try, converted by Walker.
Two minutes before the break the Raiders added their fifth try of the half when Ritson tricked his way past several defenders before finding Greg Richards who barged his way over under the sticks for Walker to convert.
It took only nine minutes of the second-half for Barrow to score again and it was Ellis Archer who celebrated his new contract by forcing his way over for an unconverted try.
The final try came on 65 minutes when Salford couldn’t deal with a high ball to the corner which was collected by Luke Broadbent who went over for the try, converted by Walker.
Coach Paul Crarey would have been well-pleased top that point but he will have been disappointed that Salford scored nine minutes from time to deny them a clean sheet.
Ollie Garmston made a good break and was able to get round Cresswell to touchdown. Toby Hughes missed the kick.
