
Workington’s United Club A made a statement win in the L&L Property Contractors Snooker League with a narrow 3–2 triumph at Division One leaders Station Road Club.
United A’s Dave Chapman opened with a solid 51–22 win over Tom Thompson, but the home side levelled as Station Road’s Darren Lawson beat Clive Lister 56–16.
United A nudged back in front when Peter O’Hagan made a break of 41 to defeat John Teasdale 57–8 to put the Division One second placed side 2-1 up.
Station Road struck back in the fourth frame, however, through Kevin Kirkham, who crafted a break of 30 en route to a 56–23 win over Mark Suitor.
Then in a decisive final frame, Andrew Mitchelhill held his nerve to edge Stephen Lowrey 54–24 and seal the win for the United Club.
Division One’s Workington Veterans Club responded to last week’s team KO defeat, with a commanding 4–1 victory at home to Division Two’s Workington Legion.
Mark Tunstall set the tone with a composed 63–16 win over Adam Hodgson, including a break of 33.
Although Paul Johnston was defeated 80–20 by Simon Tootle in frame two, the Vets regrouped emphatically.
Kevin Basnett was in imperious form, producing a 31 break in a 99–2 rout of Lewis Straughton for a 2-1 Vets lead.
Mark Tatton maintained the momentum with a 58–10 win against Legion’s George Burdon before the hosts wrapped things up by taking the fifth and final frame with a 54–7 win.

Division Two joint leaders, United Club B produced a resilient home performance to defeat Whitehaven’s Rack Shack 3–2 in an all second tier clash that swung back and forth.
Chris McKelvey gave the visitors a strong start with a 48–30 win over United B’s Stephen Harrison, but United responded as Shane Tallentire pulled out a gritty 66–53 victory against Neil Dougherty, who made a break of 42.
Rack Shack took the lead again through Phil Denvir, who comfortably beat Stephen Jackson 65–30 for a 2-1 lead.

However, it was the hosts who stepped on the gas as Andrew Carter produced a dominant 66–22 win over Kane Harper, and team mate Adam Sowden finished the job for United B with a 55–33 victory against Adam Morilla.
Finally, Division Two’s Workington Conservative Club secured another league win, edging Maryport Social 3–2 in a hugely competitive contest.
Cons’ Julian Plaza opened the match with a 63–17 win over Stuart Shepherd, but Maryport hit back through Andrew Sharp who overcame Cons legend Alan Moore 52–18.

Ryan Ismay gave the hosts the lead in the third with a strong 69–37 win over Richard McCarthy for a Maryport 2-1 advantage. Andrew Skidmore almost won it for Maryport in the fourth but was edged out 49–48 by David Holland.
In the deciding frame Ryan Barker proved to be the difference, in what is turning out to be a fine season for the Maryport cueist, with a 59–29 win over Andrew Scott to seal the match for the visitors at 3-2.
