Changes to Whitehaven squad ahead of Keighley trip

Whitehaven have had to make changes to their squad for Sunday’s trip to Keighley.

Half-back and goal-kicker Ciaran Walker hasn’t been well during the week and has to miss out while both Cole Walker-Taylor and Jordan Thomson have picked up injuries.

It mighty possibly give coach Anthony Murray a chance to look at some of the younger players in the squad as Xenden Callander, Jackson Smith and Liam Williamson are all included.

“The players have trained really well this week and I’m looking forward to seeing how we perform. It’s never an easy place to go but we have concentrated a lot on our attacking play during training.

“I thought there were a lot of positives despite the defeat by Barrow and I’m hoping we can build on those against Keighley.

“They have a new coach who will want a home win and they have some experienced players who know what the game is about,” said Murray.

Keighley have just announced the re-signing of young prop Joe Bajer on loan from Warrington Wolves after he spent time with them last season.

Whitehaven: Bickerdike, Blenkhorn, Brennan, Brown, Callander, Eccleston, Holgate, Holliday, Kellett, Lowe, McQuistan, Newbegin, Nixon, B Pearce, J Pearce, Shackley, Smith, Todd, Weatherill, Williamson.

Keighley: Michael, A. Dean, B. Dean, Proud, Whitford, Pickersgill, Beharrell, Sayner, Parker, Burton, Green, Clarke, Bajer, Rushworth, Flanagan, Farrell, Schofield, Foggin-Johnston,Hill, Lanskey, Holrpoyd.
