A litter picking festival, bringing together organisations, businesses, schools and volunteer groups from Barrow, is set to take place next month.

Tidy Town Fest – The Big Barrow Clean Up takes place from March 23 to March 29 across the town.

Tidy Town Fest aims to make a difference to the environment on our doorstep creating cleaner streets and brighter greener spaces to make walking, wheeling and cycling for everyday journeys easier, safer and more enjoyable for all.

Led by Active Cumbria’s Travel Actively Barrow team, the event is a partnership between organisations including Barrow BID, Westmorland and Furness Council, Cumbria Wildlife Trust, Barrow Town Council, The Beautiful Barrow Litter Pickers and The Litter Hitters.

Siona Hartley , Travel Actively Barrow development officer, said: “Tidy Town Fest is about more than picking up litter.

“It’s about community pride, healthier streets and inspiring people to move more in places they feel good about.

“We hope residents will join us in brightening up Barrow’s streets, parks, green spaces, beaches, shopping areas and everyday routes. When we come together, we can make a real and lasting difference.”

Groups, businesses, schools and individuals can get involved by hosting a litter pick during the festival week and people can join one of the many scheduled picks taking place in the town.
