A Lake District restaurant has been shortlisted for a national wine award.

The team from The Old Stamp House in Ambleside are finalists in the annual Star Wine List of the Year Awards for the UK, in the Best Short List category, which recognises the best wine list with fewer than 200 listings.

The awards return to the UK on March 23, marking the sixth year the awards have been held in the country.

Winners in 10 out of 13 of the award categories, which are classed as international awards, will automatically be entered into the Star Wine List of the Year Global Final 2026, which will take place this June in southern Sweden, in association with Terra Skåne.

This year’s panel of judges, including Richard Hemming, Master of Wine, Kathrine Larsen-Robert, Master Sommelier, Stephen Wong, Master of Wine and Mikk Parre, Best Sommelier of Europe, Africa and the Middle East (ASI), selected 66 venues across the competition’s 13 categories from the hundreds of entries submitted this year.

Laurentiu Bulprich, The Old Stamp House’s restaurant manager and head sommelier, said: “We’re absolutely over the moon to have been shortlisted for the Star Wine List of the Year Awards UK in the Best Short List category.

“Our wine list is carefully curated to complement the menu we serve. With a short list, there’s no room for fillers, so we focus entirely on quality and character rather than familiar labels.

“Our style blends elegant, historic European regions with exciting ‘new wave’ producers from around the world. Ultimately, we look for vibrant, terroir-driven wines that will genuinely surprise our guests and elevate their overall dining experience. Fingers crossed for March 23.”
