Barrow dropped into the League Two relegation zone last night after Newport County’s 3-1 win over Tranmere Rovers.
Two late goals in the 88th and 96th minutes carried the Welsh side to victory against the 10 men of Tranmere.
The Merseysiders had gone in front after only two minutes through Scott Finley who was later shown a straight red card in the third minute of first-half stoppage time.
In the meantime Mick Spellman had levelled in the 35th minute, although it took until two minutes from the end of the 90 for Chris Evans to put County ahead. Spellman wrapped-up the points with his second in the sixth minute of time added on.
Newport had been bottom but that precious win hoisted them to 28 points, level with Crawley Town and both from 35 games.
Barrow are ahead of Harrogate, both on 27 points, with the Bluebirds having a better goal difference.
But crucially the Cumbrians have only played 33 games and like the other two sides in trouble, Harrogate have played 35.
Barrow play first this weekend when they go to Cheltenham on Friday night while Harrogate (away to MK Dons), Newport (home to Colchester) and Crawley (home to Swindon) play on Saturday.
The Bluebirds will play one of their catch-up games next Tuesday at home to Bristol Rovers.
