Cumbria Pool Association hosted its first major competition of the season as the Inter-League KO Cup took place at QZone in Carlisle.
The Inter-League format brings together the best nine players from each local pool league, as teams from Kendal, Barrow, Carlisle, Workington, Aspatria, Penrith and Solway battled it out for regional bragging rights.
This year saw the strongest turnout in many seasons, with ten teams competing.
The event began with two groups of five, with the top two from each group progressing to the semi-finals. After a fiercely contested afternoon, Barrow and Workington topped Group A, while Carlisle A and Kendal B emerged from Group B.
The semi-finals delivered plenty of drama. Carlisle A and Workington went frame for frame in a tense encounter, but Workington’s composure under pressure saw them edge through.
In the other semi-final, Barrow produced a dominant performance to overcome Kendal B – setting up a rematch with Workington after their 14–4 victory in the group stages.
But the final told a very different story. Workington dug deep, found another gear, and pulled away to claim a well-deserved win.
Stand-in captain Aaron Garrity and Paul Vickers secured the final two frames to seal the title and take the trophy back to Workington.
Workington now qualify for the EPA National Finals in September.
