In losing 2-0 at home to Bristol Rovers, Barrow used up one of their two catch-up games and stay out of the League Two drop zone only on goal difference.
It was another disappointing result for the Bluebirds who had ended a run of three successive defeats with Friday’s 2-2 draw at Cheltenham.
This was the first time Rovers had won at Holker Street and the victory was their third in four games to hoist them nine points clear of the relegation zone.
Tommy Leigh can do no wrong at the moment, scoring both goals in Saturday’s win at Crewe and setting Rovers on their way to the win at Barrow – while also having a hand in the second goal.
His opener came on 27 minutes when Jack Sparkes’ cross found Leigh at the far post for the simplest of close-range finishes.
The clincher on 56 minutes had an element of good fortune after Leigh had been involved in the build-up. Joe Senior’s shot was off-target but top scorer Fabrizio Cavegn slid in to steer it into the net.
Home keeper Wyll Stanway had already saved twice from Sparkes before the second Rovers goal which was Cavegn’s 15th of the season.
Barrow had found it very difficult to create anything resembling a chance until late on when Lewis Shipley fired wide from a good position.
