
Workington Veterans Club produced a determined away performance in the L&L Property Contractors Snooker League with a narrow 3–2 victory over Division One leaders Station Road Club in a tightly fought contest.
Vets struck first through Mark Tunstall, who produced a solid performance to defeat current county champion Kevin Kirkham 69-58 on the black.
The home side drew level in frame two as Tom Thompson controlled the tactical exchanges against Paul Johnston, steadily pulling away to secure a comfortable 45–20 win.
With the match finely poised, Station Road responded through John Teasdale as he held off a determined Paul Smith to win on the black 48–46 and put the home side 2-1 up.
However, back came the visitors as Mark Tatton dominated the scoring against Stephen Lowery, producing a solid performance to take the frame 54–13 and the match into a decider.
The deciding frame saw Kevin Basnett demonstrate his experience under pressure while locked in a tactical battle with Darren Lawson effectively sealing the frame on the brown 58–32, for a 3–2 victory and a remarkable home/away double over the title favourites.
The result still keeps Station Road Club firmly at the summit of Division One on 53 points and the Veterans battle hard to avoid the drop in fourth on 41 points with just one league game remaining.

Up next, Division One contenders Workington’s United Club A maintained their promotion push with an impressive 4–1 home victory over Division Two’s Maryport Social.
The opening frame proved a tense affair as Dave Chapman edged a tight tactical battle with Andrew Sharp, eventually potting the decisive colours to take the frame 40–39.
Maryport quickly responded in frame two through Ryan Ismay, who dominated against Mark Suitor, running out a convincing 68–31 winner to level the match at 1-1.
United A regained control in the third frame as Clive Lister delivered a commanding performance against Liam Holm, steadily building a lead before closing out the frame 77–19.
The hosts extended their advantage even further in frame four when Darryl Walters controlled proceedings against Stuart Shepherd, holding the initiative throughout to secure a composed 49–28 victory.
United A captain Andrew Mitchelhill wrapped up the match in style in the final frame, compiling a break of 31 to pull clear of Ben Scott before comfortably taking the frame 62–26, sealing a 4–1 success for the home side.
The win strengthens United A’s position in the upper reaches of the Division 1 table sitting second on 48 points, while Maryport Social remain battling in the tightly contested Division Two table, third on 35 points.
Workington Legion edged a competitive all Division Two encounter with Whitehaven’s Rack Shack, securing a 3–2 home victory in a match that could have gone either way.

Legion started strongly through Dan Hallam, who made the most of the scoring exchanges against Chris McKelvey to claim the opening frame 50–40.
The home side extended their lead in frame two as Adam Hodgson delivered a steady display to overcome the ever improving Neil Dougherty, finishing strongly to secure the frame 47–26 for a 2-0 lead.
Rack Shack fought back in frame three when Peter McAvoy produced an assured performance against Jordan Ferguson, gradually pulling clear to win 62–26 and put the visitors back into the match.
The Legion however pushed their advantage home in frame four as Simon Tootle dominated against Adam Morilla with a series of solid scoring visits to claim the frame convincingly 61–18 and an unassailable 3-1 match lead.
As each frame carries a point the Rack Shack minimised the damage in the final frame as Lee Dougherty produced a composed display against Gary Burdon, eventually taking the frame 52–15, to end just one adrift at 3-2.
The result provides a valuable boost for Legion as they move up to 18 points while Rack Shack sit four place above them at the top of the Division Two table on 37 points.
Workington Golf Club produced the most emphatic performance of the week with a commanding 5–0 victory over fellow Division Two side, Workington’s United Club B.
Captain Mark Brasted set the tone in the opening frame with a superb display against Shane Tallentire compiling an excellent break of 45 on his way to a dominant 90–7 victory.
The momentum continued in frame two as Brian Walker comfortably defeated Andrew Carter, maintaining control throughout to secure a 61–27 win.

The Golf Club made it three from three in the next frame when Mark Cowan edged out Stephen Jackson in a competitive encounter, eventually taking the frame 50–42.
The home side moved to the brink of a whitewash in frame four with Lewis Tilley producing a confident performance against Stephen Harrison, running out a 57–24 winner.
The clean sweep was completed in the final frame as Simon Frazer held off Adam Sowden in a close contest, sealing the frame 51–44 to complete the 5–0 victory for the Golf Club.
The convincing win provides Golf Club with a significant boost in their push for the Division Two title, as they now sit second on 37 points, only due to a lower win ratio.
United Club B will look to regroup ahead of next week’s final match as they drop to fourth still on 32 points.
