Barrow lost 3-1 at Salford last night and now find themselves at the foot of League Two.
They are two points from safety but do have a game in hand of all the clubs immediately above them.
On statistics the Barrow performance wasn’t bad. They edged possession 51/49%; had as many shots as the home side and had more touches in the opposition box.
However, the stat that really counts – ball in the back of the net – was in favour of Salford who led 1-0 at half-time.
This was Salford’s fourth win in a row and puts them right back in the automatic promotion race.
They had gone ahead on 20 minutes when Ryan Graydon gathered a long ball over the top of the Barrow defence and after surging into the box drilled the ball past Wyll Stanway.
Barrow were close to an equaliser early in the second-half during their best spell of the game but a goal-bound shot from Jack Earing was somehow blocked by Rosaire Longelo.
Despite their efforts, and a couple of good opportunities, Barrow fell further behind in the 69th minute when substitute Fabio Borini got on the end of a Graydon cross to steer the ball home.
Barrow were not short of fighting spirit and on 77 minutes they reduced the deficit when substitute Danny Rose did well to find the bottom corner when given a shooting opportunity.
But Salford wrapped-up the points after 83 minutes when a poor clearance by Stanway was collected by Borini who steered the ball home.
