With six games left Carlisle United stayed four points ahead of Boreham Wood in the race for the all-important third place finish in the National League.
For while Boreham Wood were winning 2-1 at Aldershot the Blues were scraping home 1-0 at Halifax.
It came via Regan Linney’s 20th goal of the season and really, it was from their only clear cut chance in the whole game.
A lovely pass from Jack Ellis in the 68th minute set Linney free and he went on to drill a shot past keeper Sam Johnson.
Halifax are fighting for the last play-off place and were desperate to salvage at least a point to hold off their main challengers Southend and Hartlepool but United keeper Gabriel Breeze did well to save from Josh Hmami.
Generally though Carlisle had defended well and to match Boreham Wood’s result was important as they enter the home straight ahead of the play-offs.
Carlisle’s remaining games are: Braintree (A), Gateshead (H), Morecambe (A), Sutton (H), Truro (A) and Brackley (H).
Boreham Wood have: Truro (A), Wealdstone (H), Solihull (A), Hartlepool (H), Morecambe (A) and Sutton (H).
