Workington Comets will have interest in the British Under-21 semi-final which will be staged at Leicester on Sunday, May 24 (3pm).

There are eight qualifying places available for the final, joining the eight seeded riders to compete at Redcar on Sunday June 7.

New signing Jamie Etherington, 17,  is one of a trio of youngsters, along with Cooper Rushen (Poole) and Ryan Ingram (Scunthorpe) making the step up from the British Youth scene to the Championship in 2026.

Both Rushen and Ingram are also included in the semi-final at Leicester and this same trio filled the top three places in the amateur meeting at the GT Tyres Arena, Northside last September with Jamie finishing as runner-up.

Both Jamie’s father, Matthew, and grandfather, Barry, are former riders although both had only limited outings at second tier level, Matthew with Arena Essex in 2001 and Barry with Canterbury (1979) and Milton Keynes (1980).

This season he will be riding for the new Buxton team in the NDL alongside his Comets commitments.

Current Leicester Lion Cubs riders Max Perry, Ingram and Seth Norman are named in the line-up, along with Rushen, Jordy Loftus and Stene Pijper who appeared for the club at NDL/NDT level last year.

There are eight qualifying places available for the Final, joining the eight seeded riders to compete at Redcar on Sunday June 7.

Leicester co-promoter Jen Crossland said: “We’re very pleased to stage this event, and it’s good that there will be plenty of familiar faces for the supporters.

“Several of the riders have had good meetings here in the past and I’m sure it will be a competitive battle for the qualifying places.”

BRITISH U21 SEMI-FINAL: Max Perry, Jordy Loftus, Cooper Rushen, Senna Summers, Ashton Vale, Jamie Etherington, Ryan Ingram, Stene Pijper, Charlie Southwick, Harry Fletcher, Kenzie Cossey, Lee Harrison, Seth Norman, Ollie Binns, final two riders TBC.

Current Comets rider Vinnie Foord is seeded straight to the final along with two ex-Workington riders Luke Harrison and Ace Pijper.

Also through direct to the final are Will Cairns, Jody Scott, Ben Trigger, Luke Killeen, and Freddy Hodder.
