Keswick rugby union club will witness a remarkable record this afternoon in the game with Sunderland.
The latest member of the Craghill dynasty will take the family’s appearances for the Keswick first team over the years to 2,000.
Dan is the current Craghill to be notching up appearances for the Davidson Park club, and this will be his 118th outing for the firsts.
That will take the four generations to 2,000 games – started by Herbert Craghill 539, Malcolm Craghill 730 and Jonny Craghill with 613.
It’s a remarkable family contribution to the history of the club and you could even add in Philip Craghill, brother to Jonny and uncle to Dan, who also played over 100 times for the club.
A Keswick club spokesman said: “As a club we feel incredibly privileged to congratulate the Craghill family on such an amazing achievement. It is a proud moment for everyone involved with Keswick Rugby Club and we are lucky to have such a dedicated family as part of our club and rugby community
“A special mention to the Mrs Craghills of each generation who have washed countless muddy kits over many years! Such a huge milestone would not be possible without a brilliant support system at home.”
Keswick will be preparing after today’s game for next Saturday’s Cumbria County Cup final at Aspatria against Kendal.
Seven times winners Keswick were in their pomp immediately after the Second World War, winning six times in nine years.
