Mountain bikers have been urged to wear appropriate head and body protection after a mountain rescue team was called out to an incident.
Penrith Mountain Rescue Team was called by the North West Ambulance Service on Tuesday, March 31, at around 1.30pm to help with the evacuation of a biker in Coombs Wood in Armathwaite.
The biker had fallen off their bike on steep ground and injured their lower leg.
When the team had arrived, the biker had been treated by paramedics. The volunteer team carried them on a stretcher for around a kilometre through the wood to the ambulance.
The biker was taken to hospital.
Penrith Mountain Rescue Team said: “We continue to see an increasing number of calls to Coombs Wood.
“While we get a variety of callouts for this area, most stem from younger mountain bikers using the unauthorised trails built in the woodland.
“While we do not endorse the use of these routes, we would urge people to use appropriate head and body protection when riding on steep ground.”
