The Grapes

In the final round of fixtures in the JJ’s Workington Pool League it rested between Harrington Legion B and Grapes A for the title.

The Grapes were in first place on 32 points and just needed to win their final match against the Miners. They knew that the Bees Knees had been unable to fulfil their fixture against Harrington Legion B gifting them the 13-0 victory.

The Grapes talisman Steven Cook kicked off the fixture with an accomplished win and his team showed their class with Brian Audley capping off a five-frame commanding run to give the Grapes total control.

The Miners won a consolation frame in the sixth but the Grapes secured the seventh frame to set up Frankie Peel and Steven Cook for the doubles win that secured the league title with a 10-3 victory.

Red House A finished with a flourish as they had trailed 6-4 against the Pack Horse Pooligans before reeling off the last three frames for a 7-6 victory to finish the season in third place.

Cons Club A secured a top four finish thanks to newly crowned women’s champion Katarzyna Wyszomierska who clinched the winning frame in a narrow 7-6 win over Red House B.

Seaton Royal Oak will join the Bees Knees in the C league after they were beaten 8-5 by Station Road B.

In the C league Moss Bay B secured the final promotion place and runners-up spot thanks to a 9-4 victory over the Roundabout.

They pipped JJ’s E who finished third after an impressive 13-0 victory over JJ’s D.

Union Jack Club B ended the season with an 8-5 victory over the Grapes B meaning they secured their top four position.

With the league title secured weeks ago the WashHouse kept their composure to secure an unbeaten season as they finished the campaign with a 7-6 win against the Railway Club.

In the A league JJ’s B finished the season by securing their third win in a row. Facing their club counterparts JJ’s C it was Ben Scott who got his team off to a winning start.

JJ’s B continued to control the match and it was Wayne Dustin and Dan Long who secured the victory in the eighth frame as they ran out 10-3 victors, a result which sees JJs C relegated to the B league.

Moss Bay A will also join JJ’s C in the B League as they were defeated 7-6 by JJ’s A.

Station Road A finished the season in third place as the A league winners Harrington Legion A defeated them 7-6 .

Station Road C finished in good form thanks to a 7-6 victory against Cons Club B.

Finally in the race to finish fourth it was a shoot out between Pack Horse A and the Waverley.

In a close game the Waverly took command of the match to lead 6-4 but Lewis Tilley levelled the match to set up a final frame decider. It was Luke Elliot who stepped up and held his nerve to give the Waverley a 7-6 victory.

The league thanked Wayne Hardy at JJ’s for his continued sponsorship of the pool leagues.
