It’s the last week of the official RFU League season for Cumbrian clubs competing in Regional 1 North East and Regional 2 North.
There’s a big contrast between Cumbria’s two competing clubs at Level 5 – Kendal and Penrith.
Kendal, fresh from their County Cup win last week, travel to Heath who are celebrating winning the League title – so both teams are in buoyant mood.
Meanwhile at Winters Park the two combatants will be consoling themselves on going down together as Penrith host Cleckheaton, the only team below them in the table.
A sad day for both clubs, but a rather special one for Archie Harding the young referee who will be in charge of his first Level 5 games.
All members of Cumbria Referee Society have wished him all the best for this fixture and his future with the whistle.
In Regional 2 North two Cumbrian derby fixtures bring the curtain down on what has been a mixed campaign for them.
Keswick go to Upper Eden hoping to maintain their league position of third and earn a promotion play-off place.
They earned a lot of credit with their performance against Kendal last week in the County Cup final while hosts Upper Erden have had a solid season, reflected on their mid-table finish. Jonny Watson is the referee.
Not to so good at Lowmoor Road where Wigton finish the season bottom of the table and without a win so far.
They complete the campaign at home to Aspatria who could be joining them in Counties 1 Cumbria next season. Martin Denvir is the man in the middle.
The Black Reds face a relegation play-off game next week at Guisborough so will be looking for a confidence booster against their oldest local rivals.
At level seven, Counties 1 Cumbria the top three at the moment could still finish in any order after the final set of fixtures next weekend.
Tomorrow leaders Kirkby Lonsdale (76) are at home to Millom and finish off next Saturday at Cockermouth. Hawcoat Park (71) host Ambleside and then go to Creighton while Carlisle (70) host Penrith 2nds before finishing off at Egremont.
The full Counties 1 Cumbria programme tomorrow is: Keswick 2nds v Cockermouth (Martin Maughan); Hawcoat Park v Ambleside (Paddy Loughran); St Benedict’s v Workington (Dan Shovelton); Windermere v Creighton (Cieran Trainor); Carlisle v Penrith 2nds (Alistair Jones); Kirkby Lonsdale v Millom (Danny Airey). On Sunday Archie Harding is in action again refereeing the Keswick Ladies v Lincoln Ladies RFU Ladies semi-final assisted by Martin Maughan.
