Windscale continued their fine run of form in the Wearside League with an excellent home draw with champions-elect Seaton Carew.
It is inevitable that the visitors will land the title, and they could have been celebrating last night with a win, but Windscale’s 2-2 draw left them still waiting.
Windscale were twice in the lead and in the final quarter, with the opposition down to ten men after a second yellow card, it looked as though the Atoms had won it but a shot from Travis Fyfe hit the bar.
Remarkably, after 26 games that was Windscale’s first draw of the season, while opponents Seaton Carew had only previously drawn twice and lost once. They host Windscale on April 25th.
The Atoms had the first opportunity of the game after 15 minutes when the impressive captain Reece Fretwell drove forward before finding Fyfe with a defence-splitting pass, He went on but pulled his shot just wide from 12 yards.
However, the home side did take the lead soon afterwards when the lively Jayden Fulton was given a chance to run at the opposition. He did really well to hold-off a defender before sliding the ball past the keeper.
Windscale continued to do well, with the front three of Fulton, Fyfe and Harry Hodgson all sharp and causing problems.
However it was Seaton Carew who drew level against the run of play when Windscale switched off to allow them room to get the ball into the box where the move was finished well.
Windscale bounced back before the break to regain the lead with a deserved second goal. Fyfe broke down the right and his cross was smashed home by Hodgson.
It had been a deserved interval lead but as expected the visitors turned up the heat in the second-half and within five minutes they had got level with a really composed finish.
Windscale had to defend well after that but they also created problems themselves for the opposition in what proved an exciting, but goalless conclusion to the contest.
