Barrow Raiders produced an outstanding second half performance as they fought back to beat Halifax Panthers 26-20 in the day’s only Championship fixture.
They had trailed 14-4 at the break as Halifax, resurgent now after a late start to the season after their financial difficulties, scored three tries to one.
But Barrow rallied well, dominated the game after the resumption and were nicely clear before Halifax scored a fourth try right at the end.
The visitors had opened-up a 14-0 lead by the half-hour mark as they scored tries by Ben Will, Alfie Lindsey and Jesse Soric but only one was converted by Will Brough.
Barrow did finish the half well and Curtis Teare got in for an unconverted try, and it was enough to suggest they could come back and win the contest.
That’s exactly what happened and on 46 minutes a great pass from Alex Bishop put Jarrad Stack in for the try which Brad Walker converted.
Three minutes they were over again and in front. Tee Ritson made a great burst down the wing and when he found Ryan Johnston inside the captain had the pace to make the line. Walker converted.
A third try followed on 55 minutes when a high ball from Johnston was taken out of the air and passed along the line for Matt Costello to go over. Walker converted.
The game had swung Barrow’s way and on 69 minutes more good handling released Teare but it still needed work to finish and he did well to make it.
Four minutes from time Halifax reduced the arrears with a try by Zack McComb, converted by Ben Crooks.
The win moved Barrow to joint top with London Broncos, although they have played a game more than their rivals who were in 1895 Cup action.
