Windscale’s penultimate game of the season saw them travel to Wearside League Champions Seaton Carew where they were beaten 2-0.
The Atoms had drawn with Seaton 2-2 in their home fixture a couple of weeks ago, a result which delayed them winning the title.
But despite taking a reduced squad the Atoms travelled without any trepidation and were looking forward to the challenge.
Following a steady start by both teams, things looked ominous when Seaton Carew took the lead after just seven minutes.
Following a high lofted ball into the Atoms penalty area from a free kick, the defence was caught on the back foot.
The ball was headed back across goal from the back post providing Bradlee Popple the easiest of chances to tap the ball into the Atoms net.
Although Seaton were controlling the majority of the possession, Windscale were asking the Seaton defence a few questions.
Harry Hodgson was inches away from converting a ball over the top and he was also creating problems down the right hand side but unable to make the final ball count.
Parity was almost restored two minutes from the break when Seaton Carew keeper Chris Davidson had to dive low to save an effort from Travis Fyfe to retain the Champions one goal advantage.
Seaton doubled their lead five minutes into the second period when Windscale keeper Levi McAdam unfortunately fumbled an effort from Jack Caygill, the ball ending up over the line and rolling into the back of the net.
Undeterred, the Atoms battled on, Josh Wise particularly impressive followed closely by Callum Bell and Travis Fyfe.
They continued to create a number of chances but unable to beat Seaton custodian Davidson.
Fyfe rattled the crossbar with an effort from 25 yards and Rob Davidson fired narrowly wide from the edge of the penalty area.
Despite some well-constructed forays into the Seaton penalty area, Windsale were unable to find that elusive goal.
Seaton were content to see the game out and add another three points to their impressive total.
Windscale wish them well following their promotion to the Northern League.
The Atoms are on their travels again this Wednesday when they round off this season’s fixtures with a visit to Barnard Castle.
