Although bottom of the league and relegated it might sound strange, but Whitehaven probably don’t want the season to end.
After showing gradual improvement they have hit form right at the end and with one game left they have drawn two and won two across their last four fixtures.
The latest win was probably the best of them all so far, a 4-0 victory at CMB.
Now, with just a trip left to Hurst Green, Whitehaven will actually move off the bottom with a win.
Although possibly the final scoreline might have flattered the West Cumbrians, the victory certainly didn’t as they looked comfortable throughout – even under pressure – and frequently caused problems for their hosts.
George Frampton scored first half goals to give Whitehaven a handy half time lead and again, after defending soundly and positively, they hit CMB with further goals from Carney and Frampton to round-off a smart, all-round team performance.

Cleator Moor Celtic gave a much improved performance at Rossendale after their mid-week 4-1 defeat to Whitehaven.
Manager Gareth Agnew had introduced several members of the club’s successful Under-18s who have reached the County Cup final for their age group. They didn’t disappoint.
Once again, though, it was Celtic’s inability to take the chances that came their way, a failing that has cost them in recent weeks.
Rossendale had gone ahead after 35 minutes through Jack Mouncey but Celtic got themselves level three minutes into the second half through Leo Brennan.
But parity lasted only three minutes when a rather fortuitous goal from Jenson Carter gave the home side the lead again, and eventual victory.

Millom were disappointed to lose 4-2 at home to Astley and Buckshaw United after initially fighting back from 2-0 down to draw level.
Ben Rimmer (29) and Samir Sobeih (34) had given the visitors the advantage before Jed Phillips pulled one back from a goalmouth scramble right on half-time.

When Jamie Pattinson smashed a fine equaliser four minutes into the second half it looked as if Millom would go on and win it.
But Astley weathered the storm and in the last 10 minutes they won it with goals from Sobeih (80) and Callum Wilson (88).
Milnthorpe Corinthians won a tight game at home to Hurst Green with a single goal on 67 minutes from Zack Clark deciding the contest.
