Promotions for young Cumberland FA referees

Four young referees have received end of season promotion from the Cumberland FA.

Moving from Level 7 to 6 are 18-year-old Thomas Doswell and Jamie Stuart, 17.

Above them, and moving from Level 6 to 5 are George W Carter, 21, and Matthew McLean, 18.

Scott Taylor, Cumberland FA referee development officer, said: “Our end-of-season promotions again reflect the hard work and commitment shown by Cumberland FA referees at grassroots level and is their reward for on-field refereeing performances over the whole season.

“As always, I am extremely happy for them all as each and every successful promotion candidate has put a lot of effort into gaining their promotion.

“The set FA criteria states they must referee and act as an assistant referee on an appropriate number of games for their level, undertake various online CPD courses, and pass an online FA Laws of the Game test.

“I know I say this every year but I’m hopeful one or two of them can now push on next season and aim for further promotions.

“All four lads are aged 21 or under and have bright futures in refereeing if they wish to pursue it further.

“A special mention must go out to Matthew, from West Cumbria, who was recently appointed as assistant referee for the Cumberland Cup Final. That’s a massive appointment for someone so young.”
