Furness Coastguard Rescue Team was called out yesterday to investigate a possible detonator device on the beach near Fort Walney.
An area was cordoned off and pictures sent to the army’s bomb disposal experts yesterday, Saturday May 2.
The team said: “Initial thoughts were that it could have been from a sea mine however, the explosive ordnance disposal unit confirmed that it wasn’t an explosive device and it was safe to move.
“On closer inspection, it appeared to be an end cap from an electric cable.
“Our thanks to the first informant for raising his concerns.”
If you discover a suspicious item on the beach:
- Do not touch it
- Move away from the area
- Make a note of the location. Ideally a grid reference or What3Words if you can
- Call 999 and ask for the Coastguard
