Saturday’s hound racing cancelled

Saturday’s planned five-race meeting at Standing Stones had to be cancelled.

The trail layer had been unable to follow the planned route due to the mist and fog and as a result the promoter felt that it was unsafe to run the hounds as they were unsure where they would run.

Promoter James McClellan and the Ennerdale Hound Racing Committee have been working in collaboration with the local landowners and farmers to establish Standing Stones as a new venue.

The five events planned for Standing Stones over the coming weeks are being ran in aid of Diabetes UK and the coronary unit at the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven so it was really unfortunate that the first one was cancelled.

Typical Cumbrian weather had seen the afternoon getting out fine after the poor start but by then it was too late.

Many hound owners were expecting a run ahead of the first Major HRA trail of the season, the May Bank Holiday Races which are scheduled for Monday at Gamelsby.

This provides a change in venue after the last five or six years have been staged at Helton.
