Whitehaven collapsed in the final quarter of the Championship game at Swinton Lions and lost 40-12.
It was the second win in a row for the Lions now coached by former Whitehaven boss Anthony Murray and they are level on points with the Cumbrians.
For opposite number James Newton, his successor at the Ortus Rec, this was a frustrating display from his side who had been 12-12 at half time and only trailed 18-12 at the hour mark.
But in the last 18 minutes Swinton added four tries, three of them converted to run away with the game.
It had started badly for Haven when Swinton scored after only three minutes when Reece Briers spotted a gap and sent full-back Louie Roberts racing through it for the opening try. Briers landed the first of his six conversions.
The Lions doubled their lead on 17 minutes when another gap in the Whitehaven defence was exploited by Josh Eaves, sending Briers in for the try.
Whitehaven recovered, though, and three minutes later they reduced the arrears as Ellison Holgate followed a kick from Ciaran Walker to get the score by the posts. Walker converted.
The visitors then enjoyed their best spell of the game with the outstanding Jordan Burns held up after he had caused the Dswinton defence a number of problems.
It was from virtually the last play of the half that Whitehaven drew level after Holgate had forced a goal-line drop-out. It ended with Brad Brennan using his strength to take on a number of defenders and get over the line for Walker to convert.
This had been a good fightback by Whitehaven which promised much for the second half and it could have started well but Brennan knocked-on within sight of the home line.
Swinton got themselves back in front on 50 minutes when Trent Kelly-Duffy took a good pass from Tom Ratchford to score the crucial first try of the half. Briers converted.
That was definitely the turning point for after that score it was Swionton who completely dominated the final quarter.
They ran away with the games as tries by Kelly Duffy, Patrick Ah Va and two from Roberts to complete his hat-trick. Briers added three conversions.
