Re-enactors are polishing their swords and checking their tent pegs as plans for a military festival at Carlisle Castle get underway.

Now in its fifth year, the festival is organised by Cumbria’s Museum of Military Life and is set to take place on Saturday May 30 and Sunday May 31 between 10am and 4pm.

This year’s festival includes a 12th century combat tournament and 18th century drill, the chance to meet a First World War medic and see a World War II Burma display plus a selection of military vehicles and much more.

The event will also include Solway Aviation Museum, the local regimental association, and the modern army.

A KidsZone will provide dedicated activities for children plus there will be an opportunity to find out more about the museum’s Lottery funded Brass Tacks Collections project.

On Saturday afternoon, singers from Rocket Theatre group will entertain visitors with a World War II medley while the band of Cumbria’s Army Cadet Force will be playing on Sunday afternoon.
