t was a performance that Deer Orchard stalwart Fred Dandy would have enjoyed immensely.
Tributes had been paid before Orchard’s game with Moresby Rangers in the semi-final of the West Cumberland Sunday League Cup after Fred’s death three days before.
His sons Alan and Jeff were at Wakefield Road to lead the tributes but it didn’t look too promising when the game got underway as Moresby went into a 3-0 lead.
Even worse one of them was an own goal to add on to a brace from James Bell.
But to the delight of the Dandy brothers, both former Orchard players, the Cockermouth side responded and came back to win 4-3 with goals from Jayden Fulton (2), Oscar Pickering and Rob Cox.

Three other games on Sunday were also in the League Cup, but at different tiers with the tightest at Thornhill where the home side beat Division One champions Senhouse Street Club 2-0.
Jack Wordsworth and Harrison Rogers supplied the goals.
New Premier Division champions Northside, beaten in last week’s Sunday County Cup final, suffered a 4-1 defeat at Lowca Pirates.
Kian Goulding, Travis Fyfe and Alfie McQuire scored for the Pirates, who were also helped by an own goal. Shane Roe scored Northside’s consolation.
Sun Inn enjoyed a very good 4-1 win at Mirehouse Juniors with goals from Kie McCluskey (2) and Dan Pearson (2) which put them into the tier final against Thornhill.
