Despite heavy rain across the area earlier in the day the skies stayed clear for last night’s racing at Carlisle Cycle Circuit.
The programme began with racing for Under-8s and Under-10s.
Skye Stewart, fresh from overall victory in her age group at the prestigious Isle of Man Youth Tour won the U8 girls’ race and the boys’ race went to Robin Mulloy from Clydesdale Colts who impressed on his first visit to the Carlisle Circuit.
Top Under 10 boy was another Scot, David McIntyre but local rider Mieke van Schelven was victorious in the girls’ race.
The older children then followed, with the three Stewart brothers, Josh, Cobey and Mitch following their little sister’s example by winning their races, with more Scottish victories for Izzy Barbour and Zoe Martin.
Kirstie Annable, visiting from the North East, completed the winners but there were strong performances from a number of local youngsters too.
There was also a good field for the Category 3 and 4 adult race.
The bunch remained together for most of the race with attacks by several riders being reeled back in by the group fairly quickly.
Last week’s winner Dan Kendall, of Wolf Cycles, attempted to break away solo with about three laps to go but he was soon caught and it became clear that the race would be decided by a bunch sprint.
It proved to be a great night for young riders with the two youngest competitors in the race Zack Stobbs, 17, and 18-year-old Cameron Annable taking first and second.
This was a very popular result as the two young North East riders have been working very hard this year but have not quite reached their full potential on the Carlisle Circuit until this week.
The final spot on the podium was taken by Barnaby Walkingshaw, who narrowly beat Blain Ewing, the first Cumbrian home, into fourth.
Winner Zack Stobbs also rode the fastest lap of the evening in a fraction over 1 minute 16 seconds.
