Workington Comets are back in action tonight at Glasgow but tomorrow’s home meeting with Oxford has been postponed because of a poor weather forecast.

Comets are set to have Craig Cook back from injury as they travel to Ashfield Stadium this evening for a tasty looking encounter against Glasgow Tigers, who won their opening league fixture against Plymouth Gladiators (49-41) seven days ago.

The Comets, sponsored by GT Tyres, are yet to get off the mark in the league after narrow defeats in their opening two meetings — at Edinburgh Monarchs last Friday and at home to Plymouth Gladiators the following afternoon.

Team manager James Denham is delighted to welcome back former British champion Cook for today’s trip to Glasgow.

Cook is certainly no stranger to Ashfield having ridden there between 2018 and 2022. Recently signed Comets reserve Max Perry is also well acquainted with the Scottish track having been a member of the Tigers squad during 2025.

Mickie Simpson is back to guest for injured reserve Vinnie Foord, who remains on the sidelines as he continues his recovery from injury.

Glasgow line up with the indefatigable Chris Harris at number one, with Leon Flint and Kyle Howarth — who guested for Workington in a recent BSN Series tie against Redcar — filling the other heat leader slots at three and five, respectively.

German rider Mario Hausl is at two for the Tigers, with the Dane, Kevin Juhl Pedersen, at four. Glasgow’s reserves are reigning and two-time British under-21 champion Sam Hagon, and Freddy Hodder.

Workington’s Alwell Glass Meteors are also in action at Glasgow this evening. The Meteors line up with Jack Shimelt, Laylen Richardson, George Climo and Junior Travers.

Meanwhile Denham emphasised the importance of tonight’s meeting at Glasgow.

He said: “It’s imperative we bounce back as we have a full strength top five now Craig is back and we need to capitalise on that.

“That said Glasgow is always a tough place to go, but we have Craig and Max who have rode for them in the past and also Jonas and Tate go well their historically so the lads are determined to put things right and get some points on the board.”

GLASGOW TIGERS: 1. Chris Harris (9.12), 2. Mario Häusl (5.00), 3. Leon Flint (7.44), 4. Kevin Juhl Pedersen (5.00), 5. Kyle Howarth (8.28), 6. Sam Hagon (3.82), 7. Freddy Hodder (2.70). Team Manager: Cami Brown.

WORKINGTON COMETS: 1. Jonas Jeppesen (8.48), 2. Niklas Holm Jakobsen (5.00), 3. Craig Cook (8.35), 4. Tate Zischke (5.23), 5. Troy Batchelor (6.35), 6. Mickie Simpson (Guest), 7. Max Perry (2.29). Team Manager: James Denham.

(NJL) ASHFIELD GIANTS: 1. Ollie Binns, 2. Liam Greens, 3. Douglas Marshall, 4. Ella Marshall.

WORKINGTON ALWELL GLASS METEORS: 1. Jack Shimelt, 2. Laylen Richardson, 3. George Climo, 4. Junior Travers.

Meanwhile Glasgow boss Cami Brown expects a tough test as Workington visit Ashfield tonight with plenty of track knowledge in their ranks.

The Tigers got their Cab Direct Championship campaign off to a winning start against Plymouth last Friday, bouncing back from disappointing exits in the Cup competitions.

Brown said: “The club stands firm that this is a very good team and every rider needs to deliver more. If they can do that, we can reach the play-offs.

“Last week underlined that philosophy. It was Sam Hagon and Freddy Hodder who won us the meeting, they came up with the key moments.

“The next challenge is Workington. This is a Comets side packed with riders with ability who like Ashfield. It’s another very hard battle we face.”
