As so often happens in speedway it can be a case of swings and roundabouts with injuries.
As one rider gets back into action another drops out – and that might be the case at Workington.
Comets management will be sweating on the fitness of number one Jonas Jeppesen after he took a knock last night riding in his native Denmark.
Initial reports suggest that it might only be bruising, and he could be back for Saturday’s home meeting with Scunthorpe Scorpions.
However Jeppesen has had to pull out of tonight’s meeting at King’s Lynn with the Northampton Foxes.
Fellow Dane Niels-Kristian Iversen (ankle) was also ruled out after he too was hurt last night.
The Foxes will bring in Chris Harris to guest for Iversen and operate the rider replacement facility for Jeppesen.
The news is countered by confirmation that reserve Vinnie Foord will be back for the Comets at Northside on Saturday.
He practiced at the track yesterday and afterwards gave the thumbs up with no reaction from his knee injury that has kept him sidelined for most of the season.
It’s positive news for Foord as he’s also involved in the British Under-21s final at Redcar on Sunday, June 7 (5pm), the draw for which has just been made.
There will be a new champion in 2026 as Sam Hagon, who has won the meeting in the past two seasons, is now too old to compete as is last year’s runner-up Joe Thompson.
However, the other two Finalists from 2025, ex-Comet Luke Harrison and Will Cairns, will be taking part with Harrison looking to add to his British Under-19 success from last autumn.
Comets’ other reserve Max Perry is also in the field.
Redcar duo Jody Scott and Ace Pijper will be hoping to provide the Bears fans with a home winner, whilst the field also includes Harry Sadler and Charlie Southwick who race at the ECCO Arena for the Middlesbrough Tigers.
DRAW: 1 Will Cairns, 2 Harry Fletcher, 3 Freddy Hodder, 4 Senna Summers, 5 Vinnie Foord, 6 Jody Scott, 7 Max Perry, 8 Luke Killeen, 9 Luke Harrison, 10 Cooper Rushen, 11 Ryan Ingram, 12 Harry Sadler, 13 Ace Pijper, 14 Charlie Southwick, 15 Jordy Loftus, 16 Ollie Binns. Reserves: 17 Seth Norman, 18 Stene Pijper.
