Preparations under way for final Dave Day in Barrow

The final Dave Day – a celebration of Barrow’s Hairy Biker Dave Myers – has already raised £12,000 for charity.

Thousands of motorcyclists are expected to take part in Dave Day next month, with organisers hoping to make the final event the biggest yet.

It was set up in memory of Hairy Biker and celebrity chef Dave Myers, who died from cancer in 2024.

For the last three years it has raised funds to be shared between the NSPCC’s Childline service and local causes in Barrow.

Over £120,000 has been raised for Childline since 2024.

Dave Day 3: The Last Ride Home will take place on June 20 with thousands of bikers set to ride from Ace Café in London to Dave’s home town of Barrow.

Organiser Jason Woodcock said: “We’re hoping to make the final Dave Day ride the biggest and best yet, and we’re hugely grateful to everyone who has already signed up, donated, or offered support.

“The amazing team at M6 TOLL have agreed to free passage for all riders, and Amber Taverns have stepped in as the main sponsor which is really wonderful.

“If every biker who takes part donates just £5, we could smash the combined total raised in 2024 and 2025, and all that money goes to terrific causes which were close to Dave’s heart.

“If you can’t donate, then cheering us on from a safe spot as we pass would mean a lot to us all too!”

Ella Murphy, from the NSPCC’s volunteer fundraising board, said: “Dave Day has been a truly wonderful event since it was set up and a really amazing way to remember Dave and the causes close to his heart.

“We’re extremely grateful that one of those causes is our Childline service, which is available to offer free, confidential support to children and young people across the UK around the clock.

“Every £4 raised could help one of our counsellors answer a call from a child who desperately needs support, and we hope everyone gets behind the final Dave Day as enthusiastically as they have in previous years.”

After leaving London, riders will stop at Oxford, the National Motorcycle Museum, then at services in Knutsford and Lancaster before arriving at Barrow Town Hall for celebrations.

Full details of the ride routes and timings can be found on the Dave Day Facebook group.
